NEW DELHI: The Election Commission is expected to give a clean chit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi following complaint against him for mentioning the construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya during an election campaign. The Election Commission has reportedly found that Narendra Modi only explained about the achievements of the government and has not violated the model code of conduct.

The commission, in its report, mentions that his reference to the steps taken by the government to bring copies of Sikh holy book 'Guru Granth Sahib' from Afghanistan to India was also not a violation of the law. The commission received a complaint alleging that the Prime Minister's reference to the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya during the election campaign rally held at Pilibhit in Uttar Pradesh on April 9 was a violation of the model code of conduct.

Supreme Court lawyer Anand Jondale filed the complaint to the commission. Anand had filed a plea in the Delhi High Court regarding the delay in the decision on the complaint and also demanded that a case be registered against Narendra Modi under Section 153 of the Indian Penal Code.
